Firefly Education celebrates two big wins at the Educational Publishing Awards Australia

8/9/22

This week we were thrilled to take home not one, but two awards at the 2022 Educational Publishing Awards Australia (EPAAs):

  • BitMaths – Best Junior Secondary Student Resource – Mathematics/Science.
  • Sound Waves Spelling – Best Primary Student Resource – English (Literacy/Literature/Language).
BitMaths

Firefly Education sought to create a revolutionary digital maths resource for secondary students – and the judging panel’s unanimous decision to award BitMaths the winner was a real testament to our innovative platform. The panel was particularly impressed with the program’s innovative approach to problem-solving and reasoning.

BitMaths is a fresh and exciting resource. The model supports teachers to teach their way, with purposeful considerations for pedagogical models used in government schools. It is jam-packed with digital features and opportunities for differentiation. The digital-first approach leads the way in conceptual development. It offers an innovative approach to the explicit teaching of problem-solving and reasoning and further supports teachers with interactive teaching slides and online workshops.

Secondary Education Manager Joel Townsend said, ‘BitMaths, like all Firefly teaching and learning resources, is only made possible because of the hard work of many people. It is an honour to be recognised by the educational publishing industry. We look forward to providing continued support to teachers and students with innovative and engaging resources.’

Sound Waves Spelling

After undergoing a complete revamp in 2021, the new and improved Sound Waves Spelling has been met with much enthusiasm from the teaching community. The judging panel recognised this, praising the program’s comprehensive evidence-based approach to teaching spelling.

Educators are empowered to deliver quality explicit teaching through comprehensive lesson guides, interactive slideshows, videos and diagnostic assessment material. Students consolidate carefully graded skills and concepts by completing the engaging associated student book activities and games.

Project Editor Niki Kennedy said, ‘Creating the new edition of Sound Waves Spelling was a huge team effort, so this award is recognition of the passion, expertise and dedication of many people.’

Literacy Content Writer and Spelling Masterclass facilitator Michelle Retchless said, ‘We were confident we’d created engaging and pedagogically rigorous resources and it’s great to have this recognised by teachers and others in the educational publishing industry.’

We are proud to have been recognised by the EPAAs and would like to congratulate our fellow finalists and winners. Finally we would like to thank the Australian Publishing Association (APA) for acknowledging the excellent educational resources developed by Australian publishers through these awards.
